Overview
Angel attendant of Universe 7 and son of the Grand Priest (ep 0002 00:06:51; ep 0004 00:08:02). He made the angel-grade Potara (ep 0002 00:07:53) and watched Beerus die without acting, bound by angel law (ep 0004 00:11:16–00:12:31). After ten years he defied his superiors to free Vegito and was erased for it (ep 0004 00:20:39–00:22:51), leaving his staff behind (ep 0004 00:23:31).
As of the latest episode (ep 0261): alive. After his erasure he reached the demon realm and struck a deal with Lucif to find him a vessel — Vegito (ep 0162 00:06:01–00:07:28); he came back serving Lucif with a demonic staff and red Seraphim, and killed Vegito’s friends — Androids 17 and 18, Yamcha, Piccolo (ep 0134 00:01:56–00:21:49; ep 0162 00:13:32–00:18:40). He is then revealed as a servant of the Elder God Chronoa, “since the time rings first appeared” (ep 0183 00:38:41–00:39:07); with her power he holds Vegito off at the beginning of time, saying all he did was “For you” (ep 0185 00:19:44–00:38:59). His last appearance in Vegito’s story is at Chronoa’s side during the tournament (ep 0225 00:07:08–00:16:05).

Open questions
- What did the gods destroy that was dear to him (ep 0004 00:19:09)? Vegito concludes Earth, whose erasure by the gods is shown (ep 0006 00:16:46–00:17:35); that this is what Whis meant stays (inferred). See earth-erased.
- Answered: can he be brought back? He was never gone for good — alive again by ep 0131 (ep 0131 00:37:40–00:39:30), having reached the demon realm after his erasure (ep 0162 00:06:01–00:07:28). See bring-back-whis.
- His powers after Beerus’s death: see retcons.
- How can the GT timeline still have a Whis, if an erased angel is erased from all timelines? See erased-all-timelines.
- Why did Whis serve Lucif, and why the tears (ep 0133 00:42:15; ep 0134 00:01:56, 00:22:44)? Partly answered: he made a deal with Lucif to find a vessel (ep 0162 00:06:01–00:07:28), yet all along served Chronoa (ep 0183 00:38:41–00:39:07) and tells Vegito it was all “For you” (ep 0185 00:19:44–00:38:59); whether he served Lucif on Chronoa’s orders is never said. Lucif says he takes after his father (ep 0134 00:25:53) — his father is the Grand Priest (ep 0004 00:08:02), but why that makes him “demon” isn’t said. See whis-father, whis-lucif.
