Overview

The villain of the source series’ Future Trunks saga, who stole a time ring from Universe 10 (ep 0010–0011, mentioned). Presumed erased, he returns in ep 0036 through a time portal — “the original god killer and the original time ring user”, with one life left on his ring after spending the other to survive Zeno (ep 0036 00:37:20–00:38:04; he later describes surviving Zeno’s erasure, ep 0040 00:10:16–00:11:53). He watched Vegito kill Champa, then confronted him: after absorbing Zamasu while Zeno erased them, he woke in a white void and has spent a decade crossing timelines, looking for the god “higher than Zeno” who spared him (ep 0040 00:10:16–00:11:53). Beaten, he offered an alliance; Vegito instead fused with him through angel-grade Potara and absorbed him (ep 0040 00:30:05–00:36:51). He has lived inside Vegito’s mind since, sparring with Goku (ep 0041 00:02:43–00:08:18); let out in his own body (ep 0072; ep 0140–0142), he was re-absorbed after his fight with Kazuya (ep 0143 00:06:29–00:27:53), and as of ep 0225 he is still inside Vegito, raging that Kazuya was chosen over “the original god killer” (ep 0225 00:04:10–00:04:45).

Affiliations & relationships

• Hit: “looks like someone already got to you before i did assassin” (ep 0036 00:37:28–00:37:40).
• Merged Zamasu / Zamasu: Black is Zamasu’s alter ego (ep 0010, mentioned).

Abilities / traits

• Uses a time ring to open portals; it has one “life” left (ep 0036 00:37:10, 00:37:54–00:38:04). See ring-sacrifice.
• Absorbed Zamasu’s life force and energy — “the strength of our merged form” (ep 0040 00:10:36–00:10:44).
• Time clones through the rings: hundreds of “fractionally alternate” versions of himself from portals (ep 0040 00:18:08–00:18:56); drops through a portal under his feet (00:16:01).
• Final form: jagged white hair, mastered Ultra Instinct aura and Merged Zamasu’s halo (ep 0040 00:20:17–00:20:45).
• “I’m anatomically Goku” (ep 0040 00:31:28); has read the grand library’s literature on angel staffs (00:33:16).
• Super Saiyan Rosé 3 (ep 0072) — a huge pink aura and pink lightning, far longer pink hair; built while inside Vegito (ep 0072 00:09:21–00:10:56).
• New form (ep 0141) — like Super Saiyan 3 Rosé, with a divine white halo, his rosé scythe and two rosé Seraphim eyes; black portals around him release chains (ep 0141 00:41:21–00:42:06).
• Katchin chains (ep 0142) — summoned from a realm only Kais can reach; the same chains that held Vegito for ten years; he once needed a time ring to reach that realm, but has found a way without (ep 0142 00:04:22–00:05:08). Devil Kazuya breaks them by strength (ep 0142 00:10:15).

Variants

• None of his own. His counterpart in god-killer Gohan’s timeline is “Gohan Black” (ep 0211 00:14:40–00:36:39; see gohan-black).

Status

• Inside Ultra Vegito: re-absorbed as pink goo (ep 0143 00:06:29–00:27:53); last seen there in ep 0225 00:04:10–00:04:45.
• The path there: absorbed into Ultra Vegito by Potara fusion (ep 0040 00:36:28–00:36:51) and present in his mind (ep 0041 00:02:43); outside in a goo body (ep 0072 00:04:49–00:07:12), “never reintegrated”, leaving with Frieza (ep 0076 00:09:05, 00:14:25–00:15:40); out of the pyramid bruised and unconscious (ep 0082 00:41:00–00:41:33); out of Gogeta’s body in his own, in sector 2 (ep 0140 00:37:25–00:37:58).

History

• ep 0010 00:06:11; ep 0011 00:03:36–00:03:44: (mentioned) got rid of the gods in Trunks’s timeline; used the time rings to travel between timelines.
• ep 0036 00:37:01–00:38:04: steps out of a time portal beside Hit.
• ep 0039 00:39:31–00:40:31: watches Vegito from the sky.

• ep 0076: never put back into Vegito, he has trained on his own; names himself Zamasu, a Supreme Kai “taken in like a slave”, to Frieza; tells him the Saiyans mean to take his power and invites him to follow — “you have not yet become one with the god killer”.
