Aliases & name spellings

• “Light, the fifth of the five strongest” (self-named, ep 0079 00:04:18). Called “the fifth” before his name is given (ep 0078 00:40:03). In the lowercase stretches of the transcripts the name is heard as “light”, like the ordinary word.

Overview

The fifth of the five strongest: “a young teenage child”, white from clothes to hair, skin and eyes, who has “lived for thousands of years”, longer than Makoto (ep 0079 00:03:10–00:04:11, 00:07:02–00:07:09). Once Yamoshi’s student, he took Dai’s place among the five — Dai himself later says he “first appointed” Light his successor — and calls himself “The embodiment of all pure energy in the multiverse” (ep 0080 00:02:16–00:02:40, 00:12:32–00:13:02; ep 0091 00:24:41). A lone soul with no family or home, he carries a second personality, Dark, born of his loneliness, which Dai once had to stop (ep 0082 00:03:32–00:05:02, 00:07:42–00:08:13). He struck down Makoto and fought Frieza, Goku, Yamoshi, Vegeta and Broly; as Dark he took Gogeta and Vegito on, and Vegito stripped Dark away and drained Light to death (ep 0078 00:38:30–00:40:07; ep 0079–0083; ep 0084 00:41:42–00:43:56). Since then he exists only as power inside Vegito: an apparition Dai erases, and a form Vegito borrows (ep 0091 00:24:35–00:26:08; ep 0142 00:36:43–00:37:52).

• Makoto: “my colleague”; he strikes him down for being “a demon all along, hiding among us”, meaning to bring him back alive for Dai’s reward (ep 0078 00:38:30–00:40:07; ep 0079 00:02:30–00:02:49, 00:23:44).

• Movements no one can follow, even with a Seraphim eye; no sensable energy, “godly or not”; he seems to dematerialise rather than move fast (ep 0079 00:06:42–00:06:50, 00:13:32, 00:28:44–00:29:31).
• Stops Frieza’s punch with one palm; cuts off his tail unseen (ep 0079 00:20:41–00:22:46).
• A divine white barrier that shrugs off a thousand death beams and breaks Frieza’s wrist (ep 0079 00:31:39–00:33:31).

Form: Dark (ep 0081–)

• Pushed by Vegeta’s and Broly’s beams, Light’s hair turns fully black: “You two have begun! The Age of Darkness!” — “Come. My name. Dark.” (ep 0081 00:32:54–00:33:14, 00:40:46). Yamoshi: “Light has mastered it after all these years. I’ve never seen anyone apart from Dai, ever push him this far” (ep 0081 00:33:31–00:33:48). Faster and stronger: he floors Vegeta and Broly at once (ep 0081 00:34:30–00:37:01).
• ep 0082: Dark speaks in his own deeper voice — “I’ve laid dormant within light for centuries now… Until that priest comes to deal with me again… his puny little blue face” — while Light, from his left side, keeps him in check: “I’ve only pulled out a little of your energy… if Dai ever has to show up again to stop you, you know he won’t be as lenient as last time” (ep 0082 00:03:21–00:05:31). Per Yamoshi, Dark is “an alter ego… created from his loneliness”, hiding a strength “almost as bad as Lucif” (ep 0082 00:07:20–00:08:25). As Dark takes over, half Light’s body greys and his hair spikes (ep 0082 00:38:32–00:39:07).
