Summary

Bulked-up Demon King Miro now outclasses Gohan, whose Ultimate form can’t match his strength or his speed; Gohan refuses Bardock’s suggestion of a god form — he means to find his own path to power (ep 0116 00:01:16–00:03:03, 00:04:58–00:14:47). Miro holds the battered Gohan up as a prize and taunts Bardock, who keeps his promise not to step in, though he sees Gohan isn’t ready (ep 0116 00:14:52–00:18:48). Miro’s huge energy ball overwhelms Gohan’s Kamehameha, and Gohan thinks Piccolo was right that he should have kept training (ep 0116 00:20:27–00:25:13). Bardock forbids Kalo to help — “a Saiyan’s word is his bond” — but Kalo flies in anyway, hits Miro with his strongest attack to no effect, and is blasted through the chest by Miro’s “Die” (ep 0116 00:25:23–00:33:24). Seeing Kalo fall, Gohan passes through a cold calm into fury: white-flashing, long hair, red eyes, fur — “Beyond beast Gohan” — and his Kamehameha erases Miro (ep 0116 00:34:34–00:39:45). Gohan collapses in base, happy he “still” has it in him; Kalo is still alive (ep 0116 00:40:38–00:41:30). In the demon realm, Vegito senses a spike he takes to be Gohan’s energy, then opens the portal to sector 8 from the throne of sector 9; he and Yamoshi land in freezing snow, where a familiar three-toed foot steps up behind them (ep 0116 00:41:37–00:44:52).

Key events

  • 00:02:15–00:02:34 Bardock: “If you can turn into a Super Saiyan God… now would be a good time to show it.”
  • 00:02:45–00:03:03 Gohan: “Super Saiyan God, that’s more my dad’s or Vegeta style. I always said, I’d find my own path to power.”
  • 00:03:21–00:03:40 Kalo, a Super Saiyan 2: “Commander Bardock, his grandson… they’re actual monsters… I need it!”
  • 00:05:06–00:06:40 Miro slams Gohan into the ground by his head and stamps on his chest, cracking bones.
  • 00:07:30–00:07:34 Gohan: “He may look like him… But he’s a lot tougher than Bojack”.
  • 00:08:22–00:08:26 Gohan: “Word of advice, don’t become what you most hate.”
  • 00:13:05–00:14:06 Miro, despite his bulk, is “now several times faster”.
  • 00:14:59–00:15:20 Miro: “a Demon King, no, a soon-to-be Demon Emperor… Maybe your soul is worth mentioning to Lord Lucif also.”
  • 00:15:46–00:16:06 To Bardock: “your kin has been defeated… Want to finally step back into the arena?”
  • 00:17:26–00:17:37 Bardock, to himself: “Am I really… Going to let Kakarot’s kid… Die here?”
  • 00:18:37–00:18:48 Bardock: “Gohan… Is not ready for this guy at all”.
  • 00:20:09–00:20:21 Miro: “You may live forever instead… As a part… Of Lord Lucif’s… Great joining of the realms… Feel… Honored”.
  • 00:21:45–00:22:23 Gohan’s Kamehameha meets Miro’s energy ball — “One very familiar scenario”.
  • 00:24:01 Miro’s “spirit bomb like attack” eats Gohan’s beam down to a stump.
  • 00:25:08–00:25:10 Gohan: “Piccolo was right… I should have always kept training”.
  • 00:25:57–00:26:05 Bardock: “This is his battle… I already promised him that I wouldn’t step in”.
  • 00:26:39–00:27:02 “A Saiyan’s word… Is his bond… He’d rather die… Than be saved… Like a child… That’s what being a Saiyan is”; Kalo: “Then I don’t want to be one” (00:27:07).
  • 00:29:05–00:29:15 Kalo: “I’m nowhere near you guys in terms of power… But this is all I got… Believe in yourself”.
  • 00:30:08–00:31:41 Kalo’s attack strikes Miro squarely but does “absolutely nothing”.
  • 00:32:33–00:32:54 “Die…” — an explosion in Kalo’s chest, “right near his heart”.
  • 00:33:13–00:33:21 Kalo: “Lettuce… Turny… Looks like… I’ll be joining you soon”.
  • 00:34:13–00:34:22 Bardock catches him: “Stay with us”.
  • 00:35:01–00:35:44 A cold “state… Of true nothingness” turns to fury: “Gohan… Had become beast… And was about… To go even further beyond”.
  • 00:35:55–00:36:25 White-flashing hair, blood-red eyes, hair “Far longer than any previously seen form”, skin “more… Furry”.
  • 00:37:05–00:37:43 “Beyond beast… Gohan”, a form fuelled by Piccolo’s training and his “natural innate potential… To react… To the harm… Of his friends and family”.
  • 00:37:47–00:39:45 “Now… You die” — the Kamehameha destroys Miro’s ball and disintegrates him: “Demon King Miro… Would be no more”.
  • 00:40:43–00:41:00 Gohan: “I… Did it… I still have it… In me”, then falls back in base.
  • 00:41:21–00:41:26 Kalo, “still alive”: “I knew you could do it kid”.
  • 00:41:41–00:42:04 Vegito senses a spike: “That energy signature… Sensing it… All the way over here… Gohan… Was that you”.
  • 00:43:08–00:43:33 On sector 9’s throne: “Portal to sector 8… Open up”.
  • 00:44:02–00:44:14 They land on snow, with footprints ahead: “It’s freezing”.
  • 00:44:28–00:44:36 Vegito wishes he had the coats Bulma made “for fighting… Broly again”.
  • 00:44:42–00:44:46 “a very familiar foot” approaches behind them.

Characters appearing

  • Earth: Gohan (Ultimate, then Beyond Beast) · Demon King Miro — killed · Bardock · Kalo (gravely wounded, alive)
  • Demon realm: Ultra Vegito · Yamoshi · an unseen three-toed figure in sector 8 (first appearance)
  • Mentioned: Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Lucif, Bojack, Lettuce and Turny (Kalo’s fallen comrades), Bulma, Broly

Threads

Uncertainties

  • “Lettuce” and “Turny” (00:33:15–00:33:18) are taken as the names of Kalo’s dead comrades; ep 0114 heard “Lettice” (ep 0114 00:30:09).
  • The narration says Gohan “Probably” recalled “a certain situation from the past” when Kalo struck Miro (00:30:25–00:30:30) — likely the Cell Games (inferred).
  • Vegito only guesses the spike is Gohan’s (00:42:02–00:42:04); that he can sense the mortal realm from sector 9 isn’t explained, and in ep 0103 he could not lock onto any energy (ep 0103 00:20:17).
  • The owner of the “very familiar foot” (00:44:42) is not shown; probably the white, Frieza-like demon who appears in sector 8 next episode — Crime (ep 0117 00:19:47; ep 0118 00:03:40–00:05:02) (inferred: three-toed, like Frieza’s).
