Summary

In Dr. Gero’s lab Vegito recognises the scientist, who is baffled that yet another stranger knows him on sight (ep 0017 00:00:51–00:01:43). Gero guesses at a Saiyan — not Vegeta, perhaps Raditz or Nappa — but his eye scanner finds no record of him at all; the narration notes nobody in this era had heard of Potara or fusion (ep 0017 00:01:54–00:02:56). Rattled, Gero skips the final calibrations and wakes Androids 18 and 17 beside 19’s empty casket (ep 0017 00:03:06–00:04:47). Vegito recognises the moment the two were activated, remembering 17 fighting beside him at the Tournament of Power and 18 as the wife of the late Krillin (ep 0017 00:04:59–00:05:21). The androids play loyal while secretly planning to get rid of their creator (ep 0017 00:05:33–00:08:20). Vegito’s stump suddenly bleeds and he cries out; annoyed he didn’t land somewhere peaceful near Bulma and the Dragon Balls, he realises a doctor who turned humans into androids could build him a new arm — one with 17’s infinite energy (ep 0017 00:08:27–00:10:59). Gero orders 17 to kill the intruder quietly, but 17 turns on Gero instead, as in the original story — and Vegito blocks the kick, saving Gero and “changing the entire course of history once again” (ep 0017 00:11:16–00:13:09). Telling 17 “Not today Tin Can!”, he orders Gero to make him a new arm: “You’re going to make me a damn android!” (ep 0017 00:13:47–00:14:17).

Key events

  • 00:01:17–00:01:25 Vegito: “Dr. Gero! Is that you? Where am I?”
  • 00:01:34 Gero: how do Goku’s friends and this stranger all know him on sight?
  • 00:01:56–00:02:01 Gero: “That hair! Is this a saiyan? It’s not Vegeta! Could this be Raditz or Nappa?”
  • 00:02:16–00:02:35 The scanner in his left eye (as 19 used on Yamcha) finds nothing.
  • 00:02:37 Narration: at this point Goku and Vegeta had never heard of Potara or fusion.
  • 00:03:06 17 and 18’s chambers beside “the open casket of the late 19”.
  • 00:03:46–00:03:57 Gero: Piccolo, Vegeta and the others knew of the androids and where and when they’d arrive.
  • 00:04:31–00:04:47 Gero activates 18, then 17.
  • 00:05:13 Vegito: fought beside 17 at the Tournament of Power; 18 is “the now wife of the late Krillin”.
  • 00:05:47–00:05:56 18 notices Gero has made himself an android.
  • 00:06:03 Last time they were activated, Gero had to shut them down for rebelling.
  • 00:07:13–00:07:25 18 (thinking): get rid of him and they’ll never be put to sleep again.
  • 00:07:55 18: “You want us to kill Son Goku, don’t you?”
  • 00:08:27–00:08:46 “My arm!” — Vegito, unnoticed until now, cries out; the stump bleeds.
  • 00:08:57–00:09:02 He hoped for a peaceful timeline, near Bulma, to find the Dragon Balls.
  • 00:09:37–00:09:44 Nobody has ever matched 17 and 18; “17 even won the Tournament of Power!”
  • 00:10:00–00:10:23 17 and 18 have no record of him; 18 wonders whether he is another android.
  • 00:10:42–00:10:59 Vegito: 17 and 18 began as humans, so Gero could make him an arm “like the 17’s” with “Infinite Energy”.
  • 00:11:20–00:11:32 Gero: human or Saiyan, he’s no match; kill him quickly and quietly, Goku’s friends are searching outside.
  • 00:11:43 Gero: 17 was programmed to be the stronger of the two.
  • 00:12:41–00:12:53 17: “It’s your turn to be put to sleep!” — a kick at Gero, “just like in the original Dragon Ball Z timeline”.
  • 00:13:01–00:13:06 Vegito blocks the kick, “changing the entire course of history once again”.
  • 00:13:36 17: like “hitting an immovable object”.
  • 00:13:47–00:13:57 Vegito: “Not today Tin Can!” — 17 does nothing until Vegito is done with Gero.
  • 00:14:09–00:14:17 “I need a new arm… You’re going to make me a damn android!”

Threads

Uncertainties

  • 00:05:13: 17 at the Tournament of Power and 18 as Krillin’s widow are Vegito’s memories of his own timeline, not of this one (inferred).
  • 00:09:02: why he wanted the Dragon Balls isn’t said — probably to restore his arm (inferred).
  • 00:05:21 “So that means Outsider!” — unclear.
  • 00:08:20: 17’s boast breaks off (“we were at least 50 to 60 times.”).
  • 00:13:32: 17 “Anyone on this planet should be able to stop me so easily!” — the sense needs “shouldn’t”.
  • The friends of Goku “outside” (00:11:32) are Krillin, Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta and Future Trunks, whom Vegito meets outside the lab (ep 0019 00:01:09–00:01:41).
